I hope you tell me “you don’t know me anymore” to me that’s the best. I hope the guy you knew doesn’t exist. I hope you hear I stopped drinking and you smile. Because that guy is no good at being a dad. I hope you tell me “your kids will be fine” because I’ll say yes, they will be, because I’m raising them. There’s never a moment they won’t need me because before we know it they won’t. Before we know it they’ll be just like us, the way our childhood is a million years ago and 6 seconds passed in the same. The way it’s gone in the blink of an eye. I hope when our kids are our age they smile. I hope they don’t have holes where love was supposed to be. I hope they don’t have empty pockets, and tears, I hope they don’t have daddy issues and I hope they never wonder what love is. I hope they know love in their core. I hope they’re secure. I hope our kids grow up stable. I hope they grow up knowing mommy and daddy were always there because kids only know if you’re there or if you aren’t. So if you don’t know me anymore, and my kids know me. They know dad goes home. I’m good. We’re good. Because our kids are good. I love you all so much. Here’s to our kids and loving them the way they deserve.
